Learn how to make delicious, creamy, simple, and healthy oat milk! It literally only requires 2 ingredients and a few minutes of your time. Helpful tips and tricks included!
First, measure ½ cup of oats into a small bowl and cover with cool water. Let soak for 30 minutes. Then rinse oats under cool running water.
Add oats and three cups purified water to blender. Add any other optional add-ins (sweetener, cocoa, or flavoring). Blend for about 30 seconds or until mostly smooth.
Pour oat milk into nut milk bag and strain. If you don’t have a nut milk bag you can use a clean tea towel, cheesecloth, or basic fine strainer. If you opt to use a strainer, go ahead and strain your milk 2-3 times to remove most of the sediment.
Milk the nut milk bag, gently squeezing it to get all the oat milk out. Save the oat pulp that is inside the bag and use it in smoothies, crackers, oatmeal, or whatever else you dream up!
Congratulations! You’ve created delicious oat milk! Taste and add up to one more cup of water as desired.
Optional Oat Milk Upgrade:
Pour your freshly made oat milk back into the blender. Put the lid on the blender and turn it on to at least medium speed. Put two teaspoons of a neutral flavored oil (flaxseed, rapeseed, canola, vegetable oil) into a measuring cup or beaker that you can easily pour from.
Remove the blender plug, and pour in the oil super slowly while the blender is going. When you’re done, you’re done! Switch it off and taste test your upgraded oat milk.
Notes
Oat Milk Tips:
You gotta soak the oats! Soaking (30 minutes) and rinsing the oats after soaking helps remove a strong 'oat' flavor, as well as keeping the milk from being 'slimy'.
Don't over-blend! A few oat chunks are ok, you're going to strain it anyway!
Keep it cold! Use cold water for soaking, rinsing, and blending.
Optional Oat Milk Add-ins:
sweetener (agave, maple syrup, coconut sugar, pitted dates)
vanilla extract
cocoa powder
